Khao Takiap, in Hua Hin. is a very popular destination for a short excursion. The monkeys at the temple will gladly accept a banana from you.
Riding an elephant, at the Elephant ground, is also very popular.

Other excursions a little bit more far away are The Floating Market and Kanchanabuhri with the bridge over The River Kwai.
